Security is uniquely focused on solutions for enterprise security leaders. It is designed and written for business-minded executives who manage enterprise risk and security. Security provides management-focused features, opinions and trends for leaders in business, government and institutional sectors in print, in person and online.

The Security Magazine is currently looking for a Managing Editor. The goals and responsibilities for this position are;

GOALS:

1. Represent Security Magazine to the security industry through phone and in-person interviews, email correspondence, at press conferences, trade shows, educational conferences, and other meetings, as directed by the editor.

2. Work with advertisers editorially to increase revenue:

  • keep an open line of communication between you and salespeople;
  • at the request of salespeople and/or editor, contact prospects and new advertisers to advise them about editorial opportunities; serve as an editorial representative on sales calls.
  • keep sales staff informed of editorial coverage and/or opportunities for advertisers.

3. Contribute to all e-media products on a regular basis including, but not limited to: Web site content, including Security Newswire and Web Exclusive features, Security eNewsletterWebinars, Facebook and Twitter – at the direction of the editor.

4. Suggest ideas/present business plans for additional revenue-generating content, such as supplements, sponsored research, special projects, article series, etc.

5. Assist editor with suggestions for improving efficiency, quality, and on-time performance of Security Magazine.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage monthly print Global News and Analysis department

Determine editorial content, write and edit stories using AP style that focus on the business of the security industry. Include both short articles and briefs and high-res and aesthetically appealing charts and photos. Turn in to editor by scheduled deadline. After edited, assign to the art director.

2. Write, edit and manage monthly Table of Contents department.

3. Manage monthly print and online Product Spotlights department

Determine editorial content, write and edit new product innovations using AP style that explain the vertical market the product is targeted to, identify the problem that an enterprise faces that the solution solves, explains (laymen’s terms) the product's features and states the business case for the solution. Include aesthetically appealing charts and photos. Turn in to editor by scheduled deadline.

4. Research and write feature articles, using AP style, as assigned by the editor, meeting art and production deadlines. Obtain approvals from sources. Obtain photo credit from sources. 

5. Manage “Security eNews,” a twice-monthly email-delivered newsletter. Create content with links, which drives readers to securitymagazine.com. Deliver content on time to online media manager. Keep informed about e-news and Web site advertisers and communicate regularly with them. Regularly track opens and click-throughs on eNews, and report trends to editorial staff. Monitor/review stats for each edition. Maintain copies of eNewsletters for archive.

6. Manage Today's Cybersecurity Leader, a once-monthly email-delivered newsletter. Create content with links, which drives readers to securitymagazine.com. Deliver content on time to online media manager. Keep informed about e-news and Web site advertisers and communicate regularly with them. Regularly track opens and click-throughs on eNews, and report trends to editorial staff. Monitor/review stats for each edition. Maintain copies of eNewsletters for archive.

7. Securitymagazine.com. Manage all aspects of Security magazine’s social media strategy, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, and communicate strategy and results to the Editor in Chief. Provide direction to Online Support Coordinator for posting issue content and other editorial. Supply tagging and key phrases; re?write headlines for website SEO. Produce the monthly Web File Sheet to the online support coordinator. With assistance from the online support coordinator, regularly monitor website, evaluate content boxes and static sections, respond to comments and view stats. With assistance from the online support coordinator, evaluate website analytics on a regular basis to identify potential problems or growth areas.

8. Social Media. Post non-advertising content on all of Security’s social media platforms.

Update Security’s Facebook page via Engage121, minimum of three (3) posts per week.

Tweet on Twitter pages 1 to 3 times daily via Engage121.  Post news and links to articles on LinkedIn (once per week minimum); ask questions and respond when appropriate.

Monitor/manage social media outlet usage (ie, remove/report abuse). Respond to comments. Regularly monitor stats and trends.

9. Proofread feature articles, departments and columns each month, using AP style, as directed by the editor, based on the production schedule.

10. Secure and edit monthly print Career column, Cyber column, and Leadership and Management column and submit them to the Art Director.

11. Secure, edit and post six contributed online exclusive features.

12. Attend trade shows/conferences, representing Security magazine in the most professional manner. Attendance includes setting up your own appointments for the shows, as well as your own travel arrangements, meeting appropriate travel budgets. Report on conferences as necessary for publication in print or digital news.

11. Handle customer service, at the direction of the editor, including but not limited to: answering general phone calls and e-mail inquiries; complying with customer requests such as sending files or issues, etc.

12. Moderate Webinar events as assigned by the Editor or Webinar team in Troy. That responsibility includes promoting the events, tweeting during the event, and answering attendee questions post-event.

13. Other Tasks assigned by the Editor:  Attend required BNP Media editorial training and webinars, as time allows and after deadlines are met. Administrative duties as required. Other tasks as assigned.
