Southeastern Louisiana University – Hammond, La. 

The Department of Communication and Media Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University invites applicants for the position of Department Head.  The successful applicant must have an earned terminal degree in Communication or related field appropriate to the Department and credentials sufficient to earn tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

The Department aims to become a regional and national center of excellence for Communication and Media Studies including the development, construction and operation of a campus-based state-of-the-art broadcast center. Utilizing the University's nationally recognized television station and a CPB-qualified non-commercial educational radio station, the Department Head will help build dynamic undergraduate and graduate programs in Communication and Media Studies that combine theory and research with professional, hands-on experience to prepare students to meet the challenges of a media-convergent society. The successful candidate should be a driving force behind the development and enhancement of strategic initiatives, scholarly efforts, and research programs that help the Department reach this goal. 

The Department seeks a professional with significant academic, administrative, and leadership experience and the vision and ability to integrate areas within the department (Broadcasting, Journalism, Public Relations, and Speech Communication).  Real world experience in Broadcasting or a related field is preferred. 

Also required are strong supervisory and communication skills and a commitment to organization, scholarship, and student engagement. Must be dedicated to excellence in teaching. Demonstrated ability to establish a collegial environment, develop facilities and possess an interest in working collaboratively at the departmental, college, and university levels.

This position is a 12-month administrative appointment that reports to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
