Atlas Obscura seeks a Staff Writer to join our growing editorial team and craft original content about history, science, geography, travel, exploration—any subject that’s filled with wonder and surprise and anchored to an amazing place. You’ll write everything from short daily articles to long-form, deeply reported journalism, and collaborate on a wide range of current and upcoming initiatives, including theme weeks, video series, podcasts, events, and more. This role will be based out of our offices in Brooklyn, New York. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Brainstorming, developing, researching, writing, revising, and fact-checking stories that distinguish Atlas Obscura’s coverage.
  • Working closely with senior editorial staff and others to refine story ideas and improve drafts.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum of four years of applicable writing and journalism experience.
  • Outstanding research and writing skills.
  • Photo research skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized.
  • Passion for Atlas Obscura’s mission of instilling a sense of wonder in our audience
