Description:

The Forest Preserve District of Will County is accepting resumes for a part-time Digital and Print Marketing Assistant. This position is responsible for assisting the Marketing and Communications Department with duties related to the District’s social media and website.

 

The individual selected for this position will create and post online content promoting the District’s mission. The successful applicant will be a skilled wordsmith who can adhere to strict deadlines. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field, as well as a minimum of 5 years experience with using digital communications as a marketing tool. The salary for this position is $19-$23/hour commensurate with experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Writes and researches compelling stories that promote the District’s mission.
     
  2. Conducts interviews with sources either in-person or via phone or email.
     
  3. Follows Associated Press style.
     
  4. Meets tight deadlines and balance multiple projects at once.
     
  5. Helps manage all digital communications – including all social media platforms and the website – in the absence of the Communications and Creative Services Manager and the Digital and Print Marketing Specialist, posting content, answering public and internal requests (with assistance from the Public Information Officer or the Director of Marketing and Communications), and handling technical troubleshooting issues as they arise.
     
  6. Communicates effectively and professionally with the public through venues that are seen by thousands of people.
     
  7. Researches answers to public inquiries sent via digital communications, discerning which responses may require additional information and/or review.
     
  8. Collaborates with the District’s Communications and Creative Services Manager, posting program information to the website’s event calendar, and assisting with content updates to the website.
     
  9. Shoots and edits short video segments to be featured on the District’s website and social media channels.
     
  10. Works with all other District departments, including supervisors, to meet a variety of requests.
     
  11. Has an intricate knowledge of and works daily with several software programs and content management systems related to design, the website and social media management.
     
  12. Assists with planning and execution of grand openings, groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, as assigned.
     
     

OTHER DUTIES

 

  1. Coordinates special projects as assigned by the Communications and Creative Services Manager.
     
  2. Serves on District and departmental teams and work groups as assigned.
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in written form.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and vendors with accountability and attention to strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of both PC and Mac platforms.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access).
  • Knowledge of content management systems related to digital communications.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to edit text with a keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities and consistently follow up on projects.
  • Team player who is friendly, motivated, comfortable within a fast-paced, small department, and is customer-oriented.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Education:    Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field.

 

Experience:  Minimum of 5 years related experience with using digital communications as a

marketing tool, with knowledge related particularly to reporting, social media and content management for the web.
