Position:              Quill Editor and Project Manager

 

Basic Function:  The Quill Editor and Project Manager will oversee production of a quarterly print magazine and a daily journalism news site and manage programs designed to educate journalists on current trends, topics and skills.  Chief among those programs is the Google Training Initiative. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the production of Quill Magazine, SPJ’s educational member magazine.
  2. Manage editorial content on Quill’s webpage, which includes regular posts and features published on a WordPress platform.
  3. Work with SPJ volunteers and journalists at-large to develop a wide spectrum of curriculum (and delivery methods) that positions SPJ as a leader in journalism education.
  4. Develop curriculum for the Society’s ongoing professional development programs, including but not limited to newsroom training, webinars and other teaching platforms/mechanisms.
  5. Prepare and monitor Quill and educational program budgets to ensure that each program remains within budget.
  6. Work with Communications Team to effectively market SPJ’s educational programs.
  7. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. In-depth knowledge of emerging journalism trends and a firm understanding of the journalism community.
  2. Prior experience managing projects preferred.
  3. Prior experience editing a news magazine or newspaper preferred
  4. Ability to manage multiple projects and follow each carefully from inception to completion.
  5. Knowledge of budgets and tracking income and expenses
