The Houston Chronicle is looking for a talented home page editor to engage readers on one of the largest news sites in the country. 

If you're a creative digital native who's great at web metrics and intuitively understand what readers are interested in, we'd love to work with you.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor news events locally, nationally, and on competitor sites. Make sure our sites are updated and fresh.
  • Excellent at writing headlines that increase engagement, and understand content that grows visitors and time on site.
  • Evaluate website traffic trends in an effort to make decisions on both daily content and longer term content development that will grow local readership.
  • Collaborate with the newsroom on enterprise ideas and create opportunities to promote our most important stories.

Requirements

  • 3 years of digital newsroom experience. 
  • Thorough understanding of analytics to evaluate traffic patterns.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP style.
  • Organization and multitasking skills to update schedules and plan ahead.
  • Solid programming judgment and unparalleled headline writing.
  • Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly.
  • Comfortable adapting to changes in evolving industry and thrives under pressure.
