Md. State House freelance opportunities

MarylandReporter.com, a 9-nine-year old news website covering state government and politics, is looking for a freelance writer to help cover the Maryland General Assembly from January through early April.

We are also looking for someone to fill in for our State Roundup editor, doing aggregation 6-8 a.m. Fridays and other days as needed.

Annapolis: The legislature convenes Jan. 9 and closes April 8. We'll need someone two days a week in January, including the inauguration of Gov. Hogan. February, March and first week in April will be three days a week. $150 a day. The schedule is fairly flexible.

The reporter will produce stories and photos under the supervision of two experienced State House reporters. The expectation is for one story a day.

A familiarity with Maryland state government is a requirement. The reporter will work out of the State House press room and their own homes.  Many hearings can be covered remotely. The reporter will also need their own smart phone and laptop.

State Roundup: Every week day Maryland Reporter produces a daily State Roundup, a curated aggregation of coverage of state government and politics from 50 different news sites and blogs around Maryland. This will involve Friday mornings and other days as needed. $45 a day.

To apply for either position, send a letter spelling out your qualifications to Len@MarylandReporter.com along with a resume and clips of your published work. (URL links are fine.)
