Description:

Managing Editor Blouin Artinfo Website

The managing editor would be the top journalist in charge of coordinating coverage throughout the Blouin Artinfo websites, working with the editors of BlouinShop, Modern Painters and Art and Auction and the editors of various subject areas to maintain a lively, attractive, well-written and edited website and online presence serving a global audience of collectors, art lovers, gallerists, curators and general readers. This person would be in charge of the homepage experience as well as making sure that noteworthy art news events are covered and that Blouin Artinfo coverage is fair and produced using the best journalistic practices. This person would manage writers, editors and other staff across multiple platforms. We’re looking for someone with a minimum 7 years’ experience in journalism, preferably covering culture and the arts, with a preference for someone with a strong background in managing and working on websites.

This person would be responsible for the presentation on line, for having a steady flow of fresh stories and for coordinating coverage to avoid duplication.

The managing editor would anticipate the needs of the site and its readers. If there’s a major sale, fair or exhibition, for example, the editor would make sure each team has done its part. With a giant Warhol exhibition at MoMA for example and a major sale of Warhol works at Christie’s, the M.E. would make sure the Blouin Art Index produced a package on Warhol, that planned magazine stories were published first on the web and that the auction team was well prepared for a news story on the day of the sale.

The managing editor directly supervises the day-to-day operations of the editorial team and reports to the editor in chief. A major portion of the managing editor's job involves hiring and overseeing associate and assistant editors. He / She may write occasionally write stories, and is likely to help edit articles, but neither of these would be the focus of the position. The managing editor would play a key role in deciding the lineup of the homepage and the articles that appear in the mobile feed and on social media daily.

More tasks will be related to coordinating with the U.S. and France teams.
