Invites applications for the position of:

Manager Operations - Communications & External Affairs

The New York City School Construction Authority’s (SCA) mission is to design and construct safe, attractive, and environmentally sound public schools for children throughout the many communities of New York City. We are dedicated to building and modernizing schools throughout New York City and achieving the highest standards of excellence in safety, quality and integrity. 

The SCA is seeking a Manager Operations who will be responsible for developing and maintaining programs to communicate in an appropriate context and timely manner, the projects, purposes and other activities of the Authority to the public via all elements of media. 

Other Responsibilities:

•Conducts research to identify journalists from community publications who may cover the Authority's initiatives;

•Creates and maintains lists and databases of media contacts, including community publications;

•Conducts proactive press outreach to promote the Authority's work through various media exposure;

•Monitors media coverage regularly and compile/distribute media coverage;

•Plans and executes logistics for press conferences and other media-related events taking place throughout the City;

•Manages and responds to media requests (including at night and on weekends), including those submitted by community publications;

•Liaise directly with City Hall and partner agencies on top-level communications strategy and media relations;

•Works with elected officials, community boards, and other constituent groups on communication-related matters;

•Advises the Vice President and senior staff regarding communications and relationships with the media;

•Establishes an internal communications program; and publishes a periodic internal publication to communicate SCA information to staff;

•Adapts readily to new and changing conditions; maintains a firm grasp of work assignment priorities  

Minimum Qualifications:

•Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university

•Five (5) years of full time experience in project management, operations, administration or a related field; three years must have been in a supervisory (supervision of subordinate employees) or management (manage a function, unit, or process) capacity; or    

•A satisfactory combination of education and experience.

 

Weighted consideration will be given to candidates possessing:

•Three (3) years of full-time paid experience in public relations or journalism;

•Impeccable verbal, writing, and presentation skills as well as a demonstrated record as a self-starter and team-player;

•Proven experience writing and editing press releases, speeches, and related communication in addition to experience in media outreach and communications management is a must!

•The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines.  The role demands a high level of organization and attention to detail as well as the ability to think and operate.
