Description:

Reporter

Our dedicated newsroom is searching for a new reporter to join our team to cover Northern Utah with an emphasis on education and environmental topics. This position is a key part of our news reporting staff.

The Standard-Examiner is the voice of Northern Utah and is dedicated to providing the best in news to our audience.

The ideal candidate will have strong news-sense and will be able to discern what stories are priorities. A strong candidate will also have a creative mind, seeking new projects and topics focused on the education systems in Weber County and surrounding areas, and then tell these stories in a captivating and engaging way. Candidates must also have a focus on the Standard-Examiner’s digital platforms and be willing and eager to embrace different formats based on digital initiatives. This position will also contribute to collaborative and long-term newsroom projects.

This position is full time, 40 hours each week. Some evening and weekend shifts will be expected, commonly one evening shift per week and one Saturday shift per 5-6 weeks.

The ideal candidate will embrace our passion for community journalism and excitement in breaking news situations. The Standard-Examiner has a Sunday circulation of over 30,000, and opportunity for digital growth.

The Standard-Examiner is located in Ogden, an up-and-coming Northern Utah city of 86,000 with a rowdy past. Nestled up against the Wasatch Mountains, Ogden is home to gorgeous scenery and a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether it’s rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, or skiing, Ogden has it covered, with close access to three of Utah’s premiere ski resorts. Filled with locally-owned businesses and restaurants, downtown’s Historic 25th Street is home to many of Ogden’s activities, including weekly concerts and a Farmers Market in the summer.

We cover the wider Northern Utah area, including Weber and Davis counties, which has a combined population of more than 500,000 and is the home to Hill Air Force Base. Issues important to the area include residential and economic growth, growing diversity, air quality, homelessness, and more. Ogden also has a large Latino population that we strive to highlight and give a voice to.

As part of Ogden Newspapers, the Standard-Examiner offers a full benefits package, along with a professional and comfortable work environment focused on growth opportunities for employees. We are an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace.

Please attach a resume, cover letter and a link (or links) to at least three work samples, preferably showcasing previous education or environmental coverage. Send to Jordan Carroll at jcarroll@standard.net
