Content Marketing Editor

at 2U

What We're Looking For:

The Content Marketing Team is seeking an editor with a background in business and technology to help implement the company’s vision for its content marketing. The ideal candidate for this role is a news junkie with an eye for great story ideas, who also has a knack for developing editing and writing talent. In addition to creating content for our business vertical, this editor will have the opportunity to dive into a range of subject areas — including cybersecurity, technology, data science and law. You’ll work with writers, designers and PR teams to usher your own ideas, lead writers through our content development process — from pitching to publishing — and ensure that content meets the standards of 2U and our university partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the production of a variety of online content, including stories, infographics, and data visualizations, for use across partner blogs and third-party websites.
  • Independently manage work across multiple brands, maintaining each brand’s identity, style and strategy.
  • Offer insight and strategy for content ideation that improves SEO and brand marketing efforts.
  • Review story ideas from editors and writers.
  • Approve articles and stories for publication.
  • Train and work with in-house writers and editors throughout the editorial process.
  • Track deadlines and develop other metrics to ensure goals are met.
  • Copy edit and fact-check content — from stories to microsites.
  • Manage writers and give editorial feedback in one-on-one settings.
  • Interface with brand managers and partner universities to communicate content goals and problem solve as needed.

Things That Must Be in Your Background:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, English or writing.
  • Experience editing and writing in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring writers in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook and The Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Familiarity with content marketing.
  • Ability to recognize quality writing and edit, fact-check, proofread and revise as necessary.
  • Strong project management skills.

Other Attributes That Will Help You in This Role and at 2U:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Willingness to take on any task — big or small.
  • Thoughtful, concise and persuasive communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different work styles and shifting deadlines.
  • Ability to think out of the box and find creative, unorthodox solutions when needed.
  • Experience or willingness to work with team members remotely.
  • Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple assignments.
  • Ability to improve processes for efficiency.
  • Multitasking skills, particularly to prioritize and manage assignments simultaneously.
  • Openness to feedback and direction.
  • Ability to remain organized and push projects forward without much oversight.
