The Director of Content is the champion of relevant content across all platforms – digital, print, social and niche products. The Director of Content leads digital transformation, audience growth and excellence in daily storytelling that adds value to the lives of our audiences. The Director of Content collaborates with advertising leaders to create revenue opportunities while demanding editorial integrity and a commitment to quality journalism.

 Key Areas of Oversight:

  • Oversees a 24/7/365 news operation with production of a daily and weekly news publications in addition to management of websites and associated social media accounts;

  • Leads the Greeley Tribune newsroom;

  • Champions key company-wide initiatives and ensures proper rollout at the local level;

  • Recruits and manages freelance and columnist pools.

Key Product and Content Responsibilities:


• Upholds the highest journalistic standards across digital and print platforms, strongly supports the First Amendment and conceives, pursues and executes watchdog journalism;

• Develops and implements a multi-platform vision and strategy focused on generating content relevant to target audiences, specifically Digital First, Print Better;

• Constantly reviews content strategies and makes directional tweaks as necessary;

• Collaborates with other departments in the development and implementation of multi-platform products to grow audience, revenue, engagement and conversion to paying customers;

• Utilizes multiple and diverse sources for ideas and inspiration;

• Ensures that audiences are surprised and delighted by the quality of the content that we provide and view the Greeley Tribune as a trusted and respected experts in our areas of core competence;

• Contributes to daily content production as necessary by writing stories for print and online, posting to social media, taking photos, creating videos or any other areas of need;

• Oversees production of all print and digital publications to meet deadlines and ensure quality;


Key Administrative Responsibilities:


• Ensures timely and accurate completion of bi-weekly timecards;

• Ensures timely completion of required company-wide paperwork (benefits enrollment, recreation reimbursement, employee surveys, etc.) by content team;

• Participates in company-wide editorial team meetings, management meetings and other meetings as necessary or required;

• Actively engages with and participates in company-wide leadership training programs and is a champion of learning in the organization;

• Ensures timely completion of bi-annual performance agreements and makes time for one-on-one coaching and feedback for all team members;

• Assists publisher as necessary in completing month-end reports, annual business plans and annual budget presentations;

• Actively manages columnist contracts and assures that necessary paperwork is completed;

• Creates and implements new-hire onboarding processes to ensure proper onboarding and communication;

• Communicates key company-wide information to team


Key Qualifications:


• Current experience in and knowledge of major digital and social media platforms;

• Experience with WordPress and web content management systems, or the ability and will to learn them quickly;

• Must be proficient in: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe InDesign, ChartBeat, Google Analytics and iMovie;

• Knowledge and experience with digital analytics and the ability to monitor site traffic and evaluate content effectiveness;

• Basic HR knowledge to include effective coaching techniques and leadership practices;

• Sense of humor and the presence of mind that stays in tact under pressure;

• Ability to manage administrative tasks quickly, proficiently and on-time;

• A proven track record of running a first-rate digital and print newsroom.
