Description:

The Bangor Daily News is seeking  a city editor to be the leader and visionary for coverage of our core market: Greater Bangor. The editor is responsible for setting priorities and directing staff to provide readers with excellent journalism and maximize the growth of the BDN audience in this critical area, achieving audience targets in a financially sound manner.

In this role, you will assign and direct individual stories and reporting projects that offer BDN readers in Greater Bangor and elsewhere up-to-the-minute news and the emerging, important trends that affect their communities. You will prioritize quick reporting and enterprise journalism that serves engaged audiences and provides perspective, interpretation, context and analysis and use analytics tools to inform staff and coverage decisions across a variety of  audience metrics. We are looking for someone who will inspire staff, contribute to newsroom excellence and help create successful coverage tactics. The city editor should love the news business and want to do whatever possible to help the BDN thrive.

If you are right for this challenge, this is how we would describe you: You have, or can quickly develop, a deep understanding of the region, its major issues and its recent history so the city desk can provide informed and insightful coverage. You have strong leadership skills, the ability to work on multiple projects with different focuses in quick succession and a willingess to learn.

We are Maine’s most-read media outlet, with a staff of journalists that stretches from the border of Canada to the boundaries of New Hampshire. We blanket Maine’s political, social, cultural and economic trends, drive our state’s public conversation, and hold our officials accountable. We are committed to informing our community, and we see this role as key to fulfilling that commitment.

In doing so, we bring Maine together.
