The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal is seeking a researcher to work up to 28 hours a week in its downtown Minneapolis office.

Job Description

The Researcher is charged with providing Business Journal products with critical research that serves its subscribers. For instance, The List is a signature feature of the Business Journal and, under the direction of the Researcher, will be supplemented by charts, graphs, stories, etc. to illustrate what the numbers mean. The Researcher is responsible for maintaining and growing assigned databases, producing Top 25 lists, directories and other research-based special publications as assigned. The Researcher also provides assistance on enterprise projects as assigned by Editors.


Produce weekly Top 25 list and stories and/or graphics to explain and magnify interesting trends, providing deep views into the rankings. The research on those lists include locating and surveying every relevant company or other source for each Top 25 list. Create, update and maintain database of all companies and sources to be surveyed for assigned lists, which are updated for the annual Book of Lists published in December. Using credible sources of information, assure that each list is comprehensive and accurate. Help plan the Business Journal’s editorial calendar. Provide Business Journal reporters with research assistance on enterprise projects as assigned by editors. Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal sponsored events. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all colleagues and professionally with sources.


Experience with Excel and database applications preferred; published writing experience a plus

  • Skilled at data analysis and interpretation


Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. MLS (Masters in Library Science) degree a plus.
