Variety is bringing back its annual Variety500 initiative (see Variety.com/V500) later this year. As of Sept. 3, we will have a database of 500 150-word profiles that will need to be edited and lightly fact-checked and be completed by the end of that month. Project will pay an agreed-upon rate covering the estimated 75,000 words in the database (not an hourly rate). Brief editing test will be administered to applicants.

The editor will work remotely using a proprietary, Web-based database at hours of his/her own choosing (with some exceptions). Knowledge/experience with editorial copy regarding the global media business is a huge plus. Being Los Angeles-based is preferred, not essential.

Copy-editing will involve consistent application of AP and Variety house style and upholding clearly delineated editorial goals specific to Variety500. Fact-checking will entail internet searches and communicating with writers via email; no phone calls to sources necessary.

There is also the possibility of an additional assignment in October that will involve proofing the same copy for a print edition.

Please email eic@variety.com with "Copy Editor" in the subject line, thanks.
