The Resume Place, Inc. is the industry leader in both private sector and federal resume writing. Established in Washington, D.C. in 1973, the Resume Place was based for many years at the corner of 18th and K Streets. We are now primarily an online company and we offer a wide range of writing services to both individual job seekers and government agencies. Our expertise is writing federal resumes, which differ from private industry resumes in content, length and tone.

We are hoping to hire multiple freelance writers to bring into our organization to write federal resumes. We recognize this is a specialized skill and we will teach you how to create these legal, technical documents. Projects usually take between four and eight hours to complete. Last year, our top writer earned more than $100K working from home.



  • Write and edit resumes and cover letters
  • Review documents to understand client career history
  • Analyze federal job announcements for keywords
  • Evaluate applicant skills and strengths and create compelling copy to highlight their key accomplishments
  • Email, call and respond promptly to customer needs
  • Refer to legal standards and requirements
  • Submit drafts to writing supervisor for technical and style review
  • Translate complex, technical jargon to plain language

There is no standard candidate for these positions and successful past writers have included former foreign service officers, professors, lawyers, IT specialists, human resources professionals and journalists. Pay is commensurate with experience and based on the complexity of each project. The better you can write… the more you can earn.
