Description:

The Reading Eagle newspaper, along with readingeagle.com, is the number one source for news in Berks County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania. We have a strong, aggressive newsroom that punches above its weight. We won the sweepstakes in our division of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association’s Keystone Awards contest in each of the last six years. Berks County, which has a population of 400,000, is a beautiful and affordable place to live. It offers a mix of urban and rural environments and the cultural flavors that come with them. Within our boundaries you’ll find the Appalachian Trail, excellent fishing, a lively music scene, including the annual Berks Jazz Fest and Berks Country Music Festival; two pro sports teams (baseball and ice hockey), five colleges/universities, various museums, a symphony orchestra, and more. It’s close to Philadelphia (1 hour), New York and the Jersey Shore beaches (less than 3 hours each).

Our Assistant Managing Editor will lead digital content initiatives across the Eagle's platforms, including social media, increase audience engagement and ultimately, increase revenues for the Company.  You will define our tone and voice across these platforms based on the best data available.

Responsibilities:

You will oversee the newsroom's digital desk and lead our transition to a digital-first company by working with newsroom staff to ensure stories are posted online in a timely fashion and our content is being shared effectively on social media.  You will also be responsible for building a digital culture through evangelism and training.  Other key functions include:

· Drive "digital-first" content creation specific to our various web, mobile and social platforms.

· Manage digital editorial staff and assist reporters and editors.

· Liaison with in-house departments, including marketing, special events and sales, to ensure all goals and initiatives are met.

· Work with analytics/measurement team to manage all online/mobile traffic to develop and implement content strategies across multiple platforms.

· Establish and implement the overall strategic and editorial direction of all multi-platform digital content, and ensure the content meets or exceeds Reading Eagle standards.

· Work with editorial staff to create a work culture that nurtures and rewards strong reporting instincts, watchdog journalism, a sense of humor, and an eye for compelling content.

· Work with senior editorial staff and management to oversee larger site initiatives such as editorial packages, analytics and audience strategy, scheduling and calendar planning.

· Analyze metrics that demonstrate improvement in content quality (unique, user frequency/duration) and implement revisions to plan to achieve group goals.

· Use data to spot user needs and translate that understanding into growing our digital audience.
