The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) is recruiting for a Senior Director, Content Strategy, reporting to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications.

CASE is a global not-for-profit and membership association whose vision is to advance education to transform lives and society. Broad and growing communities of professional practice gather under the global CASE umbrella. Currently these include alumni relations, development services, digital, communications, fundraising, government relations, marketing and web. Individual members are at all stages of their career and may be working in universities, schools, colleges, cultural organizations or other not-for-profits. POSITION PURPOSE

As a key leader working with the vice president to ensure that the Marketing and Communications Division as a robust content strategy organization, the senior director of content strategy ensures that all content and editorial efforts in the division support and further CASE’s brand and strategic goals across the entire global enterprise.

The core functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Program/Project Management

  1. Manages the strategic development and guides editorial focus for all CASE digital, print, and social content.
  2. Oversees and directs the editorial lineup for CASE’s flagship member publication, Currents, in print and digital versions, ensuring that the publication consistently supports the key goals of the association’s strategic plan: Member Engagement, Thought Leadership, Talent Management, and Global Impact.
  3. Reviews and approves editorial planning and direction for print and digital
    Currents, and approves all print and digital content.
  4. Coordinates with the teams managed by the Senior Director of Channel Deployment and Senior Director of Brand Expression to ensure that all print and digital materials are produced in a timely and efficient manner.
  5. Operates from a “digital/global” mindset to ensure that the association’s membership acquisition and retention goals are supported by the development and deployment of appropriate content.
  6. Working with divisions across the organization, members and member institutions, strengthens the effectiveness of the publications program and communicates CASE’s strategic messaging to further connect members around the world with the
  7. Leads content team meetings to ensure alignment of messaging across all
  8. Provides expert editorial consultation on a variety of the organization’s communications
  9. Working closely with CASE leadership, staff, and membership, ideates and creates editorial content in a variety of channels.
  10. Co-facilitates (with Sr. Directors of Channel Deployment and Brand Expression) the Marketing and Communications division meetings (which includes staffers managing social media, media relations, web features, photo/video assets, and news writing) and has responsibility for coordinating strategic messaging in these various
  11. Provides clear, strategic direction and empowers staff (both direct reports and other content producers) to use their skills to arrive at best
  12. Manages content strategy team by setting clear directions and expectations, conducting performance reviews, helps resolve performance issues, and provides in terms of necessary professional development when required.

Fiscal Management/Budget Responsibilities/Judicious Use of Resources

  1. Develops and gains approval for a budget for this position's area of responsibility and executes that budget, including working to increase revenues from both print and online sources, as well as finding new sources of revenues and keeping expenses in check.
  2. Performs and manages to the established budget, regularly monitoring revenue and expenses to meet goals.
  3. Works closely with the director of corporate relations on strategies to increase revenues from print and online advertising.
  4. Working alongside business operations staff and Channel Deployment team members, helps guide relationships with outside contractors, including printers, international mailing vendors, digital and mobile publishing vendors, and freelance writers, editors, illustrators and photographers.

Management/Supervisory Responsibility

  1. Supervises staff members who report directly to this position and holds direct reports responsible for the manner in which they perform their work. Oversees hiring, training, ongoing communication, and evaluations of staff.
  2. Ensures that plans and programs are in place to advance CASE's inclusivity goals. Demonstrates by example and communicates ways that each CASE employee can enhance his or her awareness of the importance of inclusivity to the organization.

Liaison Responsibilities

  1. This position fills a central role for the interpretation of the overall strategic plan into appropriate creative solutions throughout the division, and will require a close working relationship with the vice president for marketing and communications, as well as regular interaction with managers and staff in all global offices responsible for content development, design, digital communications, and media relations, in order to achieve objectives and integrate
  2. Keeps abreast of changes in both advancement and publishing. Meets regularly and talks with CASE members, attends conferences, becomes active in professional organizations that can enhance CASE presence and visibility.
  3. Serves as the staff liaison with CASE volunteer leadership on Currents.
  4. Liaises with CASE colleagues in other parts of the world to ensure the best sharing of ideas, expertise and knowledge.
  5. Contributes to CASE-wide communications tasks as needed, including reviewing requests for translation of CASE content, serving or leading content task force committees (especially those related to CASE global offices), editing documents as requested, and other similar projects.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with at least eight (8) to ten (10) years of related senior-level experience in editorial management, journalism, communications, marketing, or public relations. Experience leveraging content across print, digital, and social channels and a demonstrable success advancing a publication. Budget and supervisory experience. Experience working in higher education or at a related association is desirable.

Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated computer proficiency, knowledge and experience with PC Windows and Mac environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs and Google Drive. Command of AP style and other editorial standards.

Skills and Abilities: Proficient writing and editing skills with proven editorial judgment. Strategic thinking with a collaborative mindset, judgment, tact, initiative, and ability to work independently required. Production knowledge concerning print processes and electronic media. Awareness of emerging editorial and industry practices and the technologies that support those practices. Ability to manage timelines, workflow, and resources efficiently, and to work with a variety of stakeholders. Ability to re-prioritize assignments on-the-fly based on evolving needs and deadlines. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously within deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
