Editorial - Marketing Assistant

Atlantic Publishing  - a 32 year old award winning book publisher is hiring for an Editorial asstant in Ocala, Florida.Atlantic Publishing, an independent, rapidly growing and award-winning book publishing firm based in Ocala. We are seeking an in-house editor that has editorial and prefer design experience, but not required. You will be required to work in our office in Ocala. This job will require strong editing skills and knowledge of Adobe InDesign.  Your duties will include updating content in books, editing manuscripts, proofing books and other general design and editorial duties. The Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Publisher in the publication of approximately  150 titles annually, primarily in the nonfiction field. The Assistant will help manage edit  bookmanuscripts, as assigned, through all editorial and production stages, including the writing of advertising copy and marketing materials. The Editorial assistant will also read and evaluate submissions and maintain appropriate records related to submissions and acquisitions. Over time, the Assistant Editor may develop contacts and acquire for the imprint.


Read, evaluate and track submissions and write  reports.

Perform clerical work for the Publisher and help ensure smooth functioning of the imprint (photocopying, mailings, data entry into proprietary publishing database systems).

Edit select manuscripts

Generate required reports from  database systems; 

Develop relationships with and communicate with authors.

Write cover and catalog copy.

Prepare title fact sheets

Request and track contracts.

Transmit manuscripts through the editorial and production processes

Follow up with key departments including administartive, Copyediting, Managing Editor, Design, Production, and Sales.


Demonstrated interest in non-fiction books

Bachelor’s Degree
 - English - Journalism Or English major preferred

Demonstrated an excellence in writing

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work through attention to detail.

An ability to manage projects independently.

Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel required; knowledge of InDesin6  a plus.

Strong communication skills, with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings to diverse internal and external audiences

Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.

Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through.
