InsideClimate News is looking to hire an ambitious, digitally savvy journalist to develop our Clean Economy Weekly newsletter into an authoritative voice on the transition to a clean energy economy. This is a part-time position, but there is opportunity for it to become a full-time reporting job.

We seek candidates who are driven to influence the national energy conservation and build a loyal following around climate change solutions. The ideal candidate can write with authority and edge on the economic, political and technological issues playing out as governments and businesses tackle the transformation to carbon-free energy. The newsletter will feature a mix of original reporting, analysis, and highlights of top stories from InsideClimate News and across the internet.

You should have a distinctive voice; know clean energy issues well and how to cultivate top sources in government and private industry; be committed to owning this beat and developing an engaging news product for a growing audience. You should be a self-starter and able to work independently.

This is an exciting chance to be part of a team that has become a leader in reporting on climate change accountability and other energy issues. It is an important position as we seek to be on the forefront of national climate solutions coverage. ICN aims to greatly expand our current staff of 15 in the next two to three years to more fully cover climate and energy and to establish a permanent newsroom devoted exclusively to environmental journalism.

We prize accuracy, creativity, clarity, flexibility, adherence to deadlines, good news judgment and a strong work ethic. An ability to excel in the culture of an entrepreneurial and collaborative news organization is a must.

- Minimum of five years of journalism experience
- Superlative people skills and collaborative nature
- Confidence working independently under deadline pressure
- Passion for accountability journalism
- Experience covering business, climate and energy issues, and an established social media presence, are all pluses

About ICN

Founded in 2007, InsideClimate News is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan news organization that covers clean energy, carbon energy, nuclear energy and environmental science—plus the territory in between where law, policy and public opinion are shaped.

Our operation is largely virtual: We have a hub in New York, one in D.C. and another in Boston, and staff from California to Maine. Our newsroom has always been driven by self-starters. We are staffed by professional journalists, many of whom bring decades of experience from leading media organizations, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, ProPublica, Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg News and Frontline. Others come from top programs for science writing and investigative journalism, among other backgrounds. Good ideas propel the operation, wherever they originate.

We have a supportive culture of collaboration and high standards of professionalism. At our core, we are motivated by accountability journalism and storytelling that has the impact to improve the public interest.

We have earned national recognition for our work and many of the most prestigious awards in journalism, including the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting and finalist for Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. For more, please see:
