Titusville, Pa. — The Titusville Herald, a daily newspaper located in the birthplace of the oil industry, is searching for its next newsroom leader. Entering its 155th year, The Herald is a morning paper and its staff members report on the events that impact the lives of the people who live in the three counties and multiple communities the paper serves.

The Herald prioritizes local news and positively connecting with its readers. Those who are interested in becoming the next editorial leader must share those priorities and work every day to see them through. Thorough knowledge of city and township government, agriculture, and small-town culture will be critical parts in an applicant’s background. The Herald also prides itself on its commitment to accuracy and clarity. Strong writing skills and a knowledge of AP style are a must for anyone considering applying for the position.

Above all, the next Herald newsroom leader must be a leader. He or she will be responsible for the editorial content of the paper, as he or she will assign hard news and feature stories and will also work with newsroom members and advertising staff on other projects aside from the paper. The newsroom leader is a representative of the paper day and night, and The Herald is looking for someone positive, professional, punctual and personable for this position.

Other functions of the position include copyediting, pagination, photography, occasional reporting, generating ideas for upcoming stories and special features, directing staff, and expanding The Herald's online presence.

Minimum requirements: Prior reporting/editing experience required. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and pay attention to details/catch errors. Portfolio of prior writing and pagination work (must be within past five years).

Technology: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat. Familiarity with content management systems.

Education: Bachelor’s in journalism or related field, such as English or communication.

Please submit your resume, a portfolio containing 3-5 writing samples of both hard news and feature stories and also pagination work, and three references to: Mike Sample, Publisher, The Titusville Herald, 209 W. Spring Street, Titusville, PA 16354 •
