Job Description

Sparkfund is hiring a Content Marketing Manager to help establish our content strategy and write content to support brand awareness, thought leadership, and demand generation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced content strategist who is looking to create a content powerhouse from scratch. We are a blank slate and are looking for a rockstar to help create our content processes and lead us on our journey from content infancy to maturity. Reporting in to our Marketing leadership and based in our Washington, DC office, you will work across the Marketing team to create clear, concise, and inventive copy that speaks to our core audience -- building owners who are considering a purchase of energy-related equipment. This role requires exceptional writing skills, creativity, the ability to craft inventive language that is at times technical without being jargony, and experience in the energy space and/or a strong desire to learn.

Here's what you'll get to do:

    • Formulate content marketing strategy to support our business goals and demand generation approach
    • Create compelling and creative content, including but not limited to articles, blog posts, white papers, interactive content, videos, and infographics
    • Write, edit, and proofread copy for marketing materials, ensuring a consistent message and voice across all channels while supporting brand guidelines
    • Optimize content for SEO, lead conversion, and engagement
    • Translate merchant and sometimes technical language into customer-friendly, readable, and even clever copy
    • Establish our content processes, including creation and ownership over our editorial calendar
    • Liaise with other verticals at the company to develop content, including Sales, Operations, and Finance
    • Communicate openly with marketing and company leadership, offering up ideas and suggestions to improve the strength and clarity of our messages

Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:

    • 3-7 years of experience writing copy and/or generating content, with experience in journalism and/or marketing preferred
    • Demonstrated experience generating content in a fast-paced environment
    • Proven ability to communicate complex topics with simplicity and clarity and to tell powerful stories to different personas
    • Ability to understand our solutions, partners, and customers
    • Ability to think and operate in an “end to end” manner in a way that addresses how our partners and customers think, and what their needs are
    • Experience with SEO is desired, from implementation of on-page SEO best practices to creating content around highly-trafficked SEO terms.
    • Ability to review analytics reports to identify what’s working and what’s not, approaching analytics reports with a curious mind that leads to tweaking copy and visuals to optimize content efforts; experience with A/B tests is a plus
    • General tech savvy-ness; Sparkfund relies heavily on software and cloud-based computing for smooth day-to-day operations
    • Comfort in Google docs and sheets, Gmail, and Google Drive is required; past experience with Asana (or other task management software), is also a plus
    • Prior experience in sustainability or energy and/or a dedication to what we’re building at Sparkfund to make an impact through increasing access to energy efficiency across the economy

Above all else:

    • You are bright and eager to learn from a diverse team, and display intellectual humility in your approach
    • You exhibit a bias toward action and are eager to take on more and improve rapidly
    • You are passionate about and committed to the Sparkfund company, cause, and goals

Perks include:

    • Competitive salaries and stock option plans - we believe in radical shared ownership in our success together
    • A comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, vision, and dental insurance, and an option to contribute to your retirement via a 401(k)
    • A fully stocked kitchen, catered Friday lunches, and free meals when you’re cranking late at the office
    • A flexible vacation policy to take the time you need
    • Workspace customization - you can work at a sitting or standing desk and set up your space the way you want
