POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Communications Manager, Communications Office, provides assigned functions for the public information program within the Clark County School District and community, and supports Communications Office administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

1. Gathers information to assist Communications Office administration with the preparation of news releases.

2. Assists Communications Office administration in daily contact with media to promote school and District activities.

3. Assists with communication needs of District employees, media, agencies, community, and the public.

4. Writes, drafts, and edits, as assigned.

5. Assist in the response to public and staff requests for information and maintains records.

6. Assists Communications Office administration in the preparation of materials and documents for public relations and marketing projects such as Nevada Family Magazine, Fast Facts, Insider, Talking Points, etc.

7. Assists Communications Office administration in the planning and implementation of special event projects such as American Education Week, Excellence in Education, National Merit Scholar, etc.

8. Assists Communications Office administration when needed with projects and routine assignments.

9. Assists Communications Office administration in planning and execution of news conferences and other media events.

10. Maintains and updates fact sheets and other information about District departments, divisions, and programs.

11. Researches background information for publications, materials and projects, and assists Communications Office administration with the presentation of information.

12. Conforms to safety standards, as prescribed.

13. Performs other tasks related to the position, as assigned.

10. Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

11. Proficiency in word processing.

12. Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education, Training, and Experience:

1. High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., General Educational Development (GED), foreign equivalency, etc.).

2. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferably in communications, public relations, marketing, English, or journalism/media field.

Licenses and Certificates:

1. A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant/employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada. License must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.

2. Copy of current driving history issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at time of application or Qualified Selection Pool (QSP) placement and at time of interview prior to final selection.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience or training in the coordination of public information programs, writing, researching, and the production of news releases and publications.

2. Desktop publishing, layout, and design concepts.

3. Spanish speaking.

2. College transcript(s).

3. A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant/employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada.
