The Austin American-Statesman is seeking two full-time, paid reporting interns for its news team for the summer of 2021.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: October 31, 2020
Here's a FAQ of what the summer internship is all about, how to apply and a little bit about or organization:
News team interns: From a nationwide pool of candidates, we select two full-time interns seeking front-line experience in local news, state news and features reporting. Our program pays $450 a week for 11 weeks, and we provide housing near the newspaper at St. Edward’s University.
What do interns do?
Interns will work alongside full-time staff members, pitching, reporting and creating content for our print and digital products. Though interns will be assigned to coverage teams, our goal is to foster an environment where students can develop their skills, and pursue their interests in a professional setting.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate and graduate college students. You don't have to be a journalism or communications major, but college newspaper experience or a previous internship is a plus. We look for a strong desire to be a journalist and work samples that show talent and promise. Interns are required to have a valid driver’s license, transportation and proof of insurance. Our interns have come from all over the country.
How do I apply?
Email us a resume, cover letter, 1-page autobiography, 3 work samples (as either links or PDF), and at least two references with phone numbers. Your cover letter should say which department you’re most interested in working with (i.e. local news reporting).
Where do I send application?
Applications should be sent via email to:
Internships Committee, Austin American-Statesman, firstname.lastname@example.org
