Ruralite Services, Inc., a national leader in utility communications with a rich history and startup spirit, seeks an energetic editor who will hit the ground running and blaze a trail for others to follow. Ruralite, based in Hillsboro, Oregon (just west of Portland), is looking for a versatile editor with digital sensibilities, journalism ethics, a marketing spirit and passion for publishing. In this transformative role, duties run the gamut, from multilayered magazine editing, coordination and design to responsibility for generating great content to feed print, social, digital and marketing efforts. Video skills are a plus. Initiative is a must. We’re a full-service not-for-profit communications cooperative for scores of consumer-owned utilities from Alaska to Florida. Our consumer-focused magazines reach hundreds of thousands of eyes each month. This is an ambitious, yet stable, 60+ year-old company with highly competitive pay and benefits. Job requirements:

  • Craft powerful, accurate, engaging content optimized for print and digital audiences
  • Edit, design, proof and guide production of multiple customized monthly magazines
  • Lead the way as a digital/social-media enthusiast and coach, providing a model for multipurpose, multiplatform editing
  • Collaborate with consumer-owned utilities to meet existing and evolving communication needs
  • Demonstrate strong editing skills and judgment as you make choices about the story play, photos, videos, blog posts and other content
  • Enhance social-media presence and generate lively content across platforms
  • Meet production deadlines, finish what you start, manage multiple projects at once
  • Write with clarity and flair to contribute to Ruralite publications
  • Partner with editorial and marketing to develop content and stories that bring value to our customers. You make sure customers know about and utilize the array of services we provide 
  • Show proficiency with Web and mobile content management systems
  • Show proficiency with page design and using digital and social-media tools
  • Be able to thrive as part of a team and share the load
  • Problem-solve, troubleshoot and excel under pressure. You like puzzles
  • Display strong customer-service skills and dedication to the public-utility mission
  • Sense of humor and good cheer
