We deliver content in all the ways readers want to engage: print magazines, digital editions, e-newsletters, live events, webinars, websites and social media. Our audience and our coverage is worldwide: good ideas don’t stop at one nation’s borders. We seek a journalist with a nose for news to cover the New York region from our office in the Empire State Building.


Job Requirements

  • Excellent communication, writing and editing skills for print, digital and social media
  • Ability to multi-task, and to work successfully under deadline pressure
  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in journalism, including online journalism (or equivalent).
  • Candidate should be located in or near New York City
  • Experience covering construction and breaking news are desirable
  • Familiarity with InCopy, content publishing, and video editing software are a plus

Editor’s Responsibilities

  • Work with Deputy Editor, Regions, to create, produce and deploy quality editorial content in print and on multiple digital platforms.
  • Successfully manage the daily execution of the editorial mission and strategy for ENR New York
  • Work with ENR News Director to provide breaking industry news for Engineering News-Record’s national weekly audience, for print and web.
  • Produce accurate, stimulating and thought-provoking content.
  • Recruit article content from contributors when needed and when budget permits. Ensure all editorial deadlines are met.
  • Follow BNP Media’s code of ethics and Editorial Guidelines; maintain journalistic integrity.
  • Work cooperatively with BNP support staff.


Specific responsibilities include:



  • Produce (6) print editions per year for ENR New York.
  • Report high-quality construction features, including industry firm profiles, project features about innovative and challenging construction jobs and market and economic trend stories.
  • Coordinate with analytics group to develop data for regional Top Lists and write stories analyzing the trends that our original data reveal.
  • Compile and write department pages as needed for each edition, including People, Pulse, Events, City Scoop, Snapshot, etc.
  • Plan, assign and execute issue content, editorial, photography and cover artwork.
  • Assign stories to freelancers and supervise their work, as needed and as budget permits.
  • Use AP Style and proofread all editorial pages, including headlines, captions, folio and masthead.
  • Post regional content to ENR’s Regional and National social media accounts.



  • Write breaking news and feature articles for the national edition, covering New York and New Jersey particularly
  • Cover a range of subjects from innovative and challenging construction projects to applications of new technology (3D printing or robotics, for example) to construction accidents (such as crane collapses or high-rise fires)




  • Provide direction to Online Support Coordinator for posting issue content. Supply tagging and key phrases; re?write headlines for website SEO. Supply multi-media content.
  • Write or create web-exclusive weekly news or blogs for the ENR New York section of  
  • Post news and blogs via ePublishing, our content publishing platform.



  • Create and deploy ENR New York eNewsletters every other week.
  • Monitor / review stats for each edition.


Social Media

  • Tweet to @ENR_NY and @ENRnews Twitter accounts regularly via Engage121.
  • Monitor/manage social media outlet usage (i.e., remove/report abuse).
  • Adhere to corporate social media policy and follow guidelines set forth in the social media best practices documents.


Multimedia and Events

  • Produce editorial multi-media efforts such as video.
  • Moderate ENR webinars.
  • Direct annual regional Best Projects competition and emcee awards event
  • Participate in other events as needed, moderating panels or recruiting speakers



  • Adhere to BNP Media policies as outlined in the staff manual.
  • Make sure freelance spending, travel and other expenses are within budget
