Position Summary

The Content Specialist will help conceive and create multi-platform, integrated content that supports the goals of our Global Marketing team, which markets Edelman externally, oversees internal communications, and ultimately helps to grow business opportunities for the firm. He or she will contribute to overall content strategy and execute a broad array of stories and related content across owned platforms (internal/external), earned media, sponsored content and experiential, with the goal of telling compelling stories that resonate with the intended audience.

In general, the Content Specialist will excel at mining fresh, true-to-brand story ideas and have a demonstrated ability to bring those stories to life on multiple platforms, especially digital and social media. A strong journalistic sensibility, sound judgement, and a keen sense of how and where stories are best told are essential for success in this position.

Although not a designer by trade, the Content Specialist should also be able to think visually and direct visual storytellers (video makers, art directors, etc.) to accomplish these goals.

Scope and Impact of the Position

Edelman is evolving from its legacy as a leading global PR agency into a full-spectrum communications marketing firm. To support this transformation, the company is building an in-house marketing and content creation team, highly digital and journalistic in nature, that tells the firm’s story and helps it stand out among its competitors.

The Content Specialist will report directly to the Executive Editor and help serve as a change agent for Edelman in thinking about, conceiving, producing and assessing content differently from traditional methods. He or she will be part of a team helping the agency uncover and identify new ways of telling the Edelman story and will be instrumental in the execution of a program to accomplish that plan. 

Basic Responsibilities

•Develop content ideas for marketing Edelman across multiple platforms, especially digital

•Create and/or write a range of content, such as online feature stories, blog posts, op-eds, Q&As with Edelman experts, social media pushes, slide shows, etc. 

•Support the integration of owned content with earned and paid media campaigns

•Be a self-starter who writes and edits materials without constant supervision 

•Ensure accuracy and the highest quality work product at all times 

•Ensure realistic deadlines are set and deadlines are met

•Collaborate with client and creative colleagues across the Edelman network

Qualifications/Requirements

•Minimum 4 years’ experience, primarily digital 

•Solid journalism/editorial experience, particularly in newspapers, magazines or respected native digital pubs 

•Strong writing and editing skills

•Data journalism specialty is a plus

•Experience working with art directors, designers, photographers and other creatives is a plus

•Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) is a plus

•Some agency experience helpful

•Experience with high-quality, prestigious editorial products

•Strong digital, mobile and social media expertise and an impressive book of content samples

•Experience with video content 

•Comfort with a highly hybridized role

•Leadership skills, but also hands-on 

•Strong emotional intelligence and ability to work collaboratively across a matrixed organization
