Science News for Students, a daily online news magazine for teens, is seeking a web producer for a five-month, full time, temporary position beginning in November. The web producer will oversee the production of all stories on the Science News for Students website; assist in web production for Science News, an award-winning magazine and daily website; and produce online educator guides for the Science News in High Schools program.

This is a full-time, on-site, five-month temporary position in our Washington, D.C., offices located near Dupont Circle that will end on or before April 9, 2018. (No search firms, please.)

Duties will include:

  • Produce Science News for Students articles, images, hyperlinks and blogs in a Drupal-based CMS.
  • Curate the Science News for Students homepage to ensure it is timely and visually appealing.
  • Do image and multimedia research for articles, and edit images for online use.
  • Search the website for related articles for curated packages and related readings.
  • Work with other members of the SNS team on writing, scheduling and promoting content-related posts on social media.
  • Proofread and edit headlines and optimize metadata to ensure posts are web-friendly.
  • Work with the Science News team to produce daily news stories, features and magazine content.
  • Work with both teams on social media, multimedia and video projects.
  • Produce online educator guides for the Science News in High Schools program in a Drupal-based CMS.

Ideal candidates will have a background in journalism with demonstrated abilities for creating content in digital media. Must be creative, dedicated to accuracy, hard-working and a team player. Required skills include knowledge of basic HTML, Photoshop and content management systems. Video editing experience is a plus.
