About us:

The Pioneer was founded in 1887 after the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived in 1882, bringing an influx of sheepherders and ranchers to the area. The paper was purchased by Yellowstone Newspapers in 2008 and has since won five Montana Newspaper Association awards for general excellence, three awards for public service journalism, one writing excellence award and one advertising excellence award, in addition to many individual staff honors.

The Big Timber Pioneer staff strives to give its readers what they can’t get anywhere else, providing hyper-local, accurate editorial and advertising content. The Pioneer serves as the trusted news authority for Sweet Grass County.
