The Los Angeles Times is looking for an experienced writer to help with our coverage of environment and public lands in the West. This is a temporary, five-month contract position aimed at producing signature work on an issue that has risen to the top of the national political agenda.

Candidates should have a deep working knowledge of environmental policy, but also be fluent in the communities of the West for whom wilderness, recreation and economic opportunity are deeply intertwined.

Importantly, the successful candidate will be an excellent writer who can spin complex debates over landscape and livelihood into a modern narrative of today’s West. What stories do you want to tell?

No phone calls, please. Please send resume, clips and story/project proposals to Kim Murphy, assistant managing editor for foreign and national news, at kim.murphy@latimes.com.
