A legal background is not required, but demonstrated interest and ability in writing or journalism is necessary. The job will entail filling in for the full-time reporter on an as-needed basis and visiting the state circuit and US district courts in downtown Detroit in the afternoon, as well as driving to state circuit courts in adjacent counties on a rotating basis throughout the week, to review and summarize new civil filings.

The substitute reporter will also have the opportunity to regularly write news stories for and cover adjacent circuit courts on a permanent basis.

To apply, please reply to this posting with a cover letter and resume in Word or PDF format along with 3-5 writing samples, and include "Detroit" in the subject line.
