The Las Vegas Review-Journal is looking for an ambitious, inquisitive, experienced health-care reporter to join its reporting team. This is an important beat with lots of tentacles, and requires someone with a deep knowledge of national health-care issues. The successful candidate will be able to write about a range of issues including opioid addiction, mental health concerns, the challenge of rural health-care and replacing the Affordable Care Act. Additionally, this reporter will help chronicle the opening of a new medical school this summer at UNLV. Along with writing regularly for the news sections, this person will contribute to a weekly Health section.

Key duties

-- Produce breaking news copy, features and enterprise content to appear in print and online. Shoot photos and video. Actively participate in social media efforts.

-- Prepare content to the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and completeness, and “clean” enough to post online without editing. -- Build personal contacts with Clark County health officials, local hospitals and their staffs.

-- Perform other duties as assigned.

Key attributes

-- Excellent reporting and research skills.

-- Knowledge of health and medical issues.

-- Three-plus years of reporting experience.

-- Experience with online publishing, social media and video.

-- Ability to see beyond the daily news to develop hard-hitting, compelling enterprise.

-- Ability to write with verve and make potentially dry public policy stories come alive by finding compelling human angles and real people.

-- Experience working with other journalists on team projects.
