Description:
Award-winning daily newspaper in Central Texas seeks an experienced reporter to fill our education beat. The education position covers two major school districts, several rural districts and a four-year private university. We're looking for a self-starter who knows how to file accurate, timely and interesting stories daily. The beat includes covering breaking news and features. Candidates should have a knack for story-writing, know AP style and want to produce the type of journalism that won the Telegram first place in several state Freedom of Information contests. Photography and video skills are helpful.
Applicants must have strong news writing, as well as video and social media (Facebook and X) skills. The ideal candidate will have the ability to generate his/her own story ideas, be adept at digital storytelling, including shooting videos, and be able to use social media on a daily basis.
Applicants should:
• Have a journalism degree from a four-year college.
• Have one year or more of newspaper reporting experience, although recent journalism school graduates with internship, community newspaper and/or college newspaper experience will be considered.
• Digital experience and knowledge of InDesign is a big plus.
• Be able to write in proper AP style.
• Have a valid driver’s license and a reliable source of transportation.
For either or both positions, send resume and clips to Assistant Managing Editor Jerry Prickett at jprickett@tdtnews.com, City Editor Shawn Ankrom sankrom@tdtnews.com and hr@tdtnews.com.
