Description:

The Daily Post is seeking a reporter for the night shift (12-9 p.m.) who can cover a broad range of beats and juggle multiple stories. We want a reporter with a nose for news, who can manage their time, develop sources, is comfortable using digital resources and doesn’t give up when an official says “no comment.”

The ideal candidate will be able to go from covering a government meeting on deadline to turning around the next day to write an in-depth article with multiple sources.

Do you know how to file public records requests and have a knack for investigative reporting? You may be a great fit for our reporting team which regularly wins awards for investigative journalism.

We’d expect a candidate to:

• be on top of local news

• produce clean copy that’s tightly written

• keep opinions out of stories and strive for accuracy and fairness

• work to get all sides of a story

We’d prefer candidates who live in the Bay Area or know the area. Experience with InDesign and taking photos is a plus.

You’ll be expected to come into the office in downtown Palo Alto and have reliable transportation as you never know when breaking news will happen.

We prefer candidates with some reporting experience but will consider recent graduates.

Do not apply if you got into this business to “change the world.” If you got into journalism to advance a social or political cause, please go somewhere else.

Pay is competitive and based on experience.

Submit 3-5 clips, a resume and a brief cover letter telling us about yourself to Editor Dave Price, price@padailypost.com. Put "reporter" in the subject line.
