The breaking news arm of the San Antonio Express-News is looking for a fast and thorough reporter who has a great sense for what web audiences want to read. 

For this reporter, every day is different. You might race to the scene of breaking news one minute and be researching drug cartels across the border the next. 

If you're generally curious about the world and want to explore new ways to tell stories on the web, we'd like to talk to you. 

Highlights of the position

  • Report news quickly and accurately
  • Understand the types of stories that engage readers
  • Shoot photos and video to tell stories in multiple ways
  • Utilize social media for reporting and story promotion


This reporter should be prepared to report on breaking news from the scene, over the phone or from the web. They should be comfortable with iterative reporting in order to get a story online fast; post details as they happen, rewriting the story as it develops. Take photos and create video as time and resources dictate. Live tweeting details of a breaking news event is expected.


  • College degree
  • One year of reporting experience
