Description:

For 90 years, major media outlets throughout Southern California have relied on City News Service, the nation's largest regional wire service, for accurate and comprehensive coverage of breaking local stories. We have personnel in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego and Riverside counties, and now we have an immediate opening for a general assignment reporter in our Palm Springs/Indio bureau.

The Coachella Valley is a top resort destination, attracting visitors from all over the world and hosting world-class music and film festivals, Modernism Week and other noteworthy events. You'll also find great outdoor recreation, a vibrant theater, art and restaurant scene, and some of the greatest weather in the nation. And when it comes to news, the Coachella Valley is no sleepy backwater, with no shortage of great stories to cover. The successful candidate will focus on court coverage, as well as police, government and other top stories.

You'll join a team that provides news content to more than 150 subscribers, including TV and radio stations, websites, newspapers and national and international media outlets, under the guidance of highly experienced CNS desk editors based in Los Angeles and Riverside. The Palm Springs/Indio bureau has a close relationship with CNS subscribers in the area, so you'll also be speaking on a daily basis with TV and newspaper editors and reporters.

If you're a journalist with a nose for news, the ability to produce accurate, clean copy on deadline and reside in Southern California, we want to hear from you. We prefer candidates with at least one year of newsroom experience, but will consider talented new graduates. The pay range is $42,600 to $47,500, dependent on several factors, including but not limited to education and work experience. Send your resume and a cover letter to Editor-in-Chief Marty Sauerzopf at marty@socalnews.com. CNS is an equal opportunity employer.
