The Ark, located in Tiburon, Calif., is seeking a full-time Tiburon beat reporter and a freelance arts/features reviewer.
The Tiburon beat reporter should be a sharp and enthusiastic self-starter for reporting and writing news and feature stories on a wide range of topics from government, policing and housing to personal profiles. You'll be expected to develop sources, generate story ideas and break news while thinking critically and challenging sources for high-impact accountability jornalism, even for seemingly routine meeting coverage.
The pay range is $48,000-$52,000 per year. The position is full-time hybrid, working in the office, on location and from home, and requires evening work to cover board meetings several times a month, as well as rare weekend work. Benefits include full medical, vision and dental; retirement with company match; paid vacation, holiday and sick days, including a ~10-plus day paid winter holiday office closure.
Ideal candidates have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, and/or have background as a news reporter for a college or professional news publication.
The freelance arts/features reviewer will be a dedicated reviewer of Marin County’s performing- and fine-arts scene — think Marin museums and galleries plus Ross Valley Players, Marin Theatre Co., Marin Shakespeare, Mountain Play, Dominican University and College of Marin. You’ll also have opportunities to write feature stories for our regular weekly edition, as well as specialty articles for our special sections like the twice-a-year Home section. This is part-time, freelance, with work remotely and on location. Journalism background preferred. Wage and wage model negotiable.
