Description:

West Hawaii Today, an 8,000-circulation daily newspaper located in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island, is seeking a talented, energetic sports editor.

The ideal candidate is a reliable self-starter who can handle every aspect of sports coverage, from reporting to editing to page design/pagination.

The sports editor primarily works afternoons/evenings and often on weekends as sports coverage dictates.

West Hawaii Today's hyper-local coverage focuses mainly on high school sports, but Kona is host to many other sporting events, such as marathons, triathlons, canoe racing, fishing and more.

Requirements: at least two years of experience as a full-time sports reporter or editor at a daily newspaper (not including college newspapers); strong knowledge about sports; and page-design and InDesign skills. Journalism degree (or equivalent experience) preferred.

This position offers competitive wages and excellent benefits (paid time off, health insurance, 401(k), etc.) in a dynamic island environment.

Applicant must be willing to relocate within six to eight week after accepting an offer. Some relocation assistance may be available. Two-year commitment expected.

If you meet the requirements above, please send a cover letter, resume, references and work samples to David Bock at dbock@hawaiitribune-herald.com. Please type “Sports Editor” in the subject line. No calls, please.
