The Texarkana Gazette, a daily covering Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas, has an immediate opening for a full-time copy editor to work on our multiplatform, regional page-building hub. Position on this universal desk requires traditional copy editing skills needed to prepare content for website, digital enhanced edition and print product, plus upload photos, videos and extra content to online platforms. It is a high volume, fast pace, high pressure job handling material from multiple newspapers. Work is often on deadline.
Applicants should be able to design pages, edit copy, write compelling headlines, tone photos quickly, use InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, and know and understand AP style.
Flexibility in scheduling is required as is working nights and weekends — approximately 3 p.m. to midnight. Successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail oriented, organized, able to meet daily deadlines, multitask, work independently and have excellent time management skills.
A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field is desired. Appropriate professional experience may be deemed an acceptable substitute.
A background check and drug test are required.
