Description:

Idaho’s largest non-daily newspaper, the Idaho Mountain Express, published twice weekly in the beautiful Sun Valley, Idaho, resort community, has an opening for an arts and events editor who's a strong, experienced journalist and can hit the ground running. This is a great community-journalism job in one of the most beautiful places in the nation. If you're serious about good journalism and like the idea of living in a great mountain resort area where people can hike, bike or ski on a morning off and experience a world-class performance in the evening, then you may be a good match for this job.

The Express—recognized last month by the National Newspaper Association as the No. 1 large, non-daily newspaper in the country—has a strong tradition of providing award-winning news and arts coverage. It won first place for General Excellence this year, and Best Local News Coverage among all large dailies and non-dailies in the NNA's 2016 Better Newspapers Contest. The newspaper has been honored numerous times by the Idaho Press Club as the best non-daily in the state.

Candidates must have a college degree in journalism and at least two years of reporting experience, preferably with some experience in arts and events writing.

The position is a full-time (40 hours a week) role that demands a variety of journalism skills, from reporting on a vibrant arts scene to composing features and managing the newspaper's calendar. The arts editor is responsible for all elements of an 8- or 12-page section every week. Candidates must have excellent writing and editing skills, a deep interest in arts and music, and an absolute understanding of AP style. The position requires strong organizational skills and efficiency while working on tight deadlines.

Benefits include full health insurance and generous paid vacation.

The Idaho Mountain Express is situated in Ketchum, one mile from world-class Sun Valley Resort, in the heart of Idaho's Rocky Mountains. The area has a thriving cultural scene and superlative outdoor recreation opportunities—including downhill and Nordic skiing in the winter and excellent hiking and mountain biking in the summer—all of which are enjoyed in the vast expanses of surrounding Forest Service and BLM lands. This is a rare opportunity to join a highly successful, well-established publishing company situated in one of the country's most pristine recreation paradises.
