Description:

Join the largest and most highly recognized news team in the Washington, D.C., suburbs of Northern Virginia. InsideNoVa is seeking a dogged reporter to cover government and politics in Prince William County, the second-largest county in Virginia, about a half-hour south of Washington.

The ideal candidate will have two to three years of newsroom experience, ideally covering a local government beat, along with a proven ability to develop sources and generate compelling story ideas. While we are a weekly paper, we are 24/7 online, so this is a fast-paced position -- and comfort with writing for both digital and print is a must. Multimedia skills are a plus. Late-night meetings are part of the job, but weekend work is not generally required.

This is a local, on-the-ground reporting position. Sourcing and getting to know the community are imperative. Candidates must live in or be willing to move to Northern Virginia.

InsideNoVa.com and its award-winning weekly InsideNoVa/Prince William newspaper are locally owned by Rappahannock Media LLC, which also owns weekly and bi-weekly newspapers in Rappahannock and Culpeper counties, a group of community magazines in Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier and Stafford counties and the digital property FauquierNow.  Our Prince William newspaper has twice been named the best large weekly in the state (most recently in 2022) and in 2021 won the Virginia Press Association’s top award for journalistic excellence.

This is a full-time position with benefits, including:

  • Work from home. While this position is based out of our Woodbridge office, reporters do not need to be in the office every day. We’re a flexible, team-oriented company that understands the modern workplace.
  • Flexible hours.  We're in the news business, which is 24/7, but most positions are not Monday-Friday, 9-5.  Generally, you can structure your own schedule, as long as the work gets done.
  • Family atmosphere. We're a small team, about 30 full- and part-time employees, some of whom have worked for InsideNoVa or our other products for over 20 years.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Medical insurance, with a significant company contribution toward the monthly premium.
  • Life insurance/long-term disability coverage provided at no cost.
  • 401(k)

Applications will be reviewed as they are received until the position is filled. Please include links to or PDFs of at least three recent articles as well as a cover letter with salary expectations. Apply to tbaratko@insidenova.com
