Description:

The Republican of Springfield seeks multi-talented part-time page designer/copy editor

The Republican in Springfield, Massachusetts — a repeat winner of Newspaper of the Year honors — is looking for a collaborative part-time page designer and copy editor to join our publications hub.

Our page designer/copy editors are the brains and muscle of Republican afternoon operations, designing and paginating news, arts, culture and sports pages for the print newspaper and e-editions; edit copy and photo captions; post stories to our award-winning website, MassLive.com; write award-winning headlines; and proofread pages.

Work varies, from daily and weekly newspapers to a Spanish language periodical and other tabs and magazines. Our designers and editors can work independently as needed and prioritize multiple tasks appropriately, and all have experience with Adobe InDesign suite and Photoshop-like programs.

Our team contributes to the planning and execution of multiple publications, including daily and Sunday newspapers. Tasks often include the curation of stories, photos and graphics from multiple sources, including social media platforms, for use in print products.

Here’s what you should bring to the table: a degree in journalism or related experience; ability in writing, editing and producing high-quality print or e-edition pages; command of AP style and grammar; and demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environment. Spanish-language skills are a plus.

The Republican offers a competitive salary. We also offer a hybrid work schedule, if desired.
