Class Title: News Management 3.0
Location: Online Description: EAST LANSING, Michigan -- Recognizing challenging industry times, Michigan State University's School of Journalism is offering its first online news management class for professionals and advanced students. JRN 808 News Management 3.0 will share the latest in new newsroom management trends and provide the necessary leadership training to lead 21st century newsrooms during the changing industry environment. "We recognize that those in the field and those considering media opportunities need advance education and training, but are not always in a position to attend a course on campus," says Lucinda Davenport, Acting Director of MSU's J-School. "This online experience provides participants an opportunity to develop new tools to learn and manage news operations, but also to share with others on a regular, long- term basis not afforded in seminars and workshops." The 1-credit course runs 15 weeks, from January 11 to May 7. Students will learn critical management skills in today's rapidly changing media environment to prepare for a first management job or a current management position. Topics range from leadership and new newsroom organization to new media strategies and generating revenues. The course is $479. Call the J-School at 517-353-6430 to sign up. Course moderator, Ken Winter, is a 36-year award-winning journalist, editor and publisher. He is an MSU J-School graduate, NEH Michigan Journalism Fellow and earned his MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Ferris State University. He was awarded the James H. Ottaway College-level Journalism Educators Fellowship for the recent American Press Institute's "New Newsroom" seminar, co-sponsored by ASNE. |
