Description:
INTERN NEEDED AT THE POINT REYES LIGHT, MARIN COUNTY, CALIF. Staff reporter and reporting intern positions are opening at the Pulitzer Prize-winning Point Reyes Light, located in West Marin County, California. We are a small, independent weekly print newspaper covering the environmental, agricultural, cultural and civic life of coastal Marin's communities with quality writing and rigorous reporting. Our reporters and interns are expected to conduct in-depth research, produce thoughtful writing and fact-check their work; assist with proof-reading and delivery; and develop the art of "village journalism,"conducting themselves with sensitivity in a rural community in which they are not anonymous, but rather part of things and accountable for their work. Staff reporters write an average 3,000 words per week on a strict deadline. Reporting interns produce roughly 1,500 words per week and are paid a monthly $500 stipend. We regularly receive top awards from the National Newspaper Association. Applicants should have a passion for storytelling and the confidence to converse with people from all walks of life. They should be comfortable writing hard news, features, art and book reviews and in-depth obituaries. They should be independent and self-motivated, with a record of accuracy, productivity and respect for deadlines. They should expect to work hard. Those interested should send a resume, cover letter and at least six published clips to Tess Elliott at editor@ptreyeslight.com. To see our work online go to ptreyeslight.com.
