The Starkville Daily News is seeking an energetic and passionate reporter to cover community news, breaking news and various other topics. The Daily News is a seven day publication, reaching more than 8,000 residents with our daily edition.  The ideal candidate will work directly with  editor and other reporters in a team environment. While some story ideas will be provided, reporters are expected to generate copious amounts of copy on strict deadline and, at some points, under little supervision. We will consider both experienced and entry-level candidates, as long as you are committed to generating news copy and getting the facts. During the week, reporters are required to attend municipal meetings, school board meetings, planning/zoning board meetings and other meetings during the evening hours. Each reporter is assigned to a particular beat and should be familiar with all happenings in their assigned communities and the Golden Triangle Area. 

Reporters are required to take photographs of events being covered along with other center piece photos to be used in the daily  edition. Candidates with their own camera equipment is a plus, but not required. This is not a 9-5 job as breaking news can happen at any moment and anywhere. 

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communication, English or other related field.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must possess excellent writing and communication skills, strong knowledge of grammar, spelling and AP Style.
Candidates must have reliable transportation and a cell phone.
Knowledge of Indesign, Photoshop and Internet programs a must.
