The Curry Coastal Pilot, a twice-weekly, award-winning, hyper-local community newspaper on the Southern Oregon Coast, is accepting applications for a staff writer. Pay is $11 to $12 per hour depending on experience. J-grads preferred, but practical experience will be considered. 


We seek an experienced, self-motivated journalist with strong reporting and writing skills with demonstrated experience covering hard news and features. The ideal candidate will be a self starter who can work well in an evolving newsroom, generate story ideas and has a knack for turning everyday stories into gems. There are opportunities to write and post stories, photos and video on our web site, new app and social media sites.The position requires regular afternoon and evening work, and occasional weekend assignments. 


Experience with Photoshop and InDesign is a plus. Candidates from the western United States are preferred. The positive, upbeat newsroom is filled with people practicing big town journalism for our appreciative, small-town readers. The surrounding beaches, rivers and forests offer plenty of outdoor fun. The Curry Coastal Pilot is the primary newspaper for the city of Brookings and surrounding Curry County (population 22,000).
