Description:

Assistant Editor Kalmbach Publishing Co. is seeking an Assistant Editor with strong copy editing skills and an interest in beading to join the staff of Bead&Button.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Editor, the Assistant Editor is primarily responsible for proofing and copy editing print and online content, ensuring that stories are publication-ready. Other duties include testing submitted instructions, remaking jewelry, writing and editing instructions for accuracy, preparing and executing how-to photos and illustrations to accompany instructions, writing creative headlines and intro text, developing content ideas, blogging, and participating in other magazine/Bead & Button Show related activities.

This position will also involve similar editorial work on another Kalmbach title, Wirework.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES/EXPERIENCE

• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills

• Interest in beading

• An eye for the aesthetic qualities of photographs, graphics, and page design

• Proficiency in MS Word; previous experience with InCopy and website management systems is a plus

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• Detail-oriented and highly organized; able to manage multiple assignments
