Associate Editorial Director

Skyword is seeking an Associate Editorial Director (AD) to lead a team of copy editors and editorial managers as they oversee the creation, quality assurance, and delivery of content to Skyword’s clients. The AD also works closely with the VP of Content Services to create and implement Skyword's editorial strategy. The ideal candidate is a results-driven leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The AD must be highly organized, editorially assured, and able to confidently communicate with contributors, marketers, VPs, and other senior staff. Experience with the discovery, evaluation, and maintenance of a client's brand tone and voice is vital. The AD must have effective negotiation and conflict management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with Skyword’s Services team to ensure programs are meeting delivery goals and that content meets each client’s unique and high standard of quality.
  • Determine, monitor, and manage team workload.
  • Report on the status of the team's clients and workload to senior management, and propose courses of action.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for staff, including copy editing, platform, client management, and writer communication training.
  • Handle all aspects of copy editor and editorial manager recruitment, onboarding and training, performance reviews, and staff development.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce Skyword's editorial best practices and internal procedures.
  • Lead team and department meetings, as well as conceptualize, write, and deliver intra- and inter-company presentations.
  • Be the editorial face of Skyword to potential clients, writers, and partners.
  • Perform the duties of a Senior Editorial Manager for clients that require deeper editorial guidance and support.

Requirements

  • Excellent editing skills with an exceptional eye for detail.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple editorial styles depending on our clients' needs.
  • Experience with online content and SEO.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks on deadline.
  • Ability to train, develop, and manage a team.
  • Prior team management experience.
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with freelance contributors, clients, and partners.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively deliver constructive feedback.
  • Experience with magazine, marketing, or online media strategies desirable.
  • Self-starter approach to work with an eagerness to consistently meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial culture.
  • Track record of success.

Experience

  • Bachelors degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field.
  • 6-8 years of professional editing experience.
  • 2-4 years of team management experience.
