Company: The Villages Daily Sun
Seeking driven A1/projects designer

Job ID: 1575579

The Villages Daily Sun is seeking a senior designer to help lead the visual evolution of America’s fastest growing daily newspaper.

Located at the heart of the nation's most fascinating stories, The Daily Sun is defying trends of declining circulation numbers and downsizing staff (circulation nearly 60,000 and climbing). Our secret is simple: We're a newsroom powered by journalists who are passionate about community journalism.

We expect that same reader-focus from our visual editors, and we're looking for a portfolio that demonstrates an ability to emotionally connect with readers.

This is not an entry-level position. It requires self-direction and the ability to present a range of complex subject matter in a sophisticated way. As a member of our senior staff, you'll work directly with an A-list editing group to define the high-end of what's possible. Successful candidates should be comfortable working across newsroom teams to develop the day’s top stories - whatever they may be.

We're an entirely Mac-based newsroom, so applicants should be expert users in Creative Suite and have advanced skills in interpreting and presenting the news. Digital skills are not required, but an experimental mindset is a must.

The Census Bureau just named The Villages as the nation's fastest growing metropolitan area. Our 100,000-plus residents (most of whom are retirees) will tell you why: We're a 90-mile drive to the beach, Orlando's theme parks and the historic neighborhoods of Gainesville and St. Augustine. We offer competitive pay, excellent benefits and access to a highly regarded school system in one of the state’s most idyllic settings.
