Description:

Southern California Public Radio seeks a Senior Producer for one of its flagship programs to serve one of the largest and most diverse public media audiences in the nation. This person oversees all aspects of production for AirTalk, a daily public affairs and talk program which regularly brings newsmakers, leading thinkers and undiscovered ideas to an audience that calls in, comments and exchanges opinions across all its platforms.

The Senior Producer is responsible for generating and evaluating ideas for the program and leading the show’s production staff to ensure AirTalk brings those ideas to the audience in original and creative ways, consistent with the highest journalistic standards. This person also interacts regularly with other SCPR programs and news staff, looking for opportunities for special coverage, signature contributions and editorial efficiencies.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Ten or more years of experience in journalism, including at least one year managing the work of others.
• Three to five years experience managing a show

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to produce programs that meet SCPR standards
• Proven ability to contribute to a positive, diverse, creative, high performance culture
• Ability to advocate for program/resources/staff
• Supervisory skills and ability to recruit, coach and develop talent
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to inspire and lead the staff
• Ability to lead and manage change
• Skill and experience in budget management
• Ability to evaluate content/quality/sound and act decisively with sound management
• Knowledge of new media applications for digital distribution, audience engagement and community networking
• Ability to think and plan strategically
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and represent program internally and externally
• Ability to maintain high journalistic and production standards under deadline pressure.
• Digital Editing skills (ProTools or other).
• Strong research skills.
• Ability to deal with a broad variety of complex projects and assignments that may have impact across divisions
